Have you had your 8 glasses of water today?

Growing up, I was always taught that everyone should at least drink 8 glasses of water per day.

Now, I really wanted to check into that to make sure it was correct. My thoughts were, “I don’t think that a man who is 7 ft tall and a women that is only 4 ft tall should drink the same amount of water. It just doesn’t seem logical.”

So how much water should we be drinking everyday?

It’s a simple question with no simple answers.

No single formula fits everyone, but knowing more about your body and the fluids it needs will help you estimate the amount you need.

Water makes up about 60% of your body weight. Every system in our bodies depend on water.

The Institute of Medicine determined that an adequate intake (AI) for men is roughly 3 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day. The AI for women is 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day.

And what about the advice to drink eight glasses a day?

Everyone has heard the advice, “Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day.” That’s about 1.9 liters, which isn’t that different from the Institute of Medicine recommendations. Although the “8 by 8″ rule isn’t supported by hard evidence, it remains popular because it’s easy to remember. Just keep in mind that the rule should be reframed as: “Drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of fluid a day,” because all fluids count toward the daily total.

So, how do you get yourself to drink that much water a day? Tired of the same tasting water?

…And I am off to adventure outside! This morning was spent on the Circuit 2 video…I shall have it up soon! :)
